Bruce Sachs, my publisher and I met Dr. Vince Cable, Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills by chance at a dinner party at the Buxton Festival in July this year. We discussed the family business sector with him and suggested that it could make a much stronger contribution to the British Economy. We offered to write a paper on it and to send it to him at his department which he happily accepted. This paper was completed on the 19th August 2010 and sent to him. Although I have had many conversations with the very helpful staff in his office we have not yet received any response to the document itself. We have therefore now decided to share it publicly.

This document has also now been sent to Mr. Mark Prisk MP, Minister of State for Business and Enterprise so that we have now requested a meeting so that we can present our findings and look to discuss future possible government action.
